Cottons Care Guide
Your LD Cotton is special. It needs the right care to last longer and age well.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR COTTON HANDPRINTS.
FABRIC: All our Cottons are 100% Pure Cotton. A magical fabric that is anti-allergenic and gets softer with every wash. What makes LD’s Cotton different is the involvement of Hand Printing processes in its journey. All the Hand Block Prints, excluding Sanganeri, are Naturally Dyed, enriching the colours and bringing a gentle, skin-friendly touch.
SHRINKAGE: Through the hand-dyeing and printing process, our Cottons are washed multiple times. This ensures zero shrinkage and a gradual, graceful fade of colours over time. All LD Kurtas and Dresses also come with 1.5 inches of seam allowance on each side allowing for easy adjustment if needed.
COLOURS: All natural-dyed fabrics are prone to bleeding in the first 2-3 washes as the excess dyes are released. Colour bleeding does not compromise its colour depth. In fact, the colours will brighten up with the initial washes. The excess dyes will only run off with water and do not spread at all. The excess dyes can also rub off onto surfaces like pants and your skin while wearing (particularly with Indigo Kurtas). All of this stops happening after two-three hand washes.
For the first two to three washes, delicately hand wash your Cottons separately. After that, they can be hand washed with like-colours. Some gentle and graceful fading over time is to be expected for natural dyes.
- Gentle Hand Wash separately in cold water, INSIDE OUT. Do not scrub, rub or wring the fabric. Do not soak for too long. In order to maintain the brilliance of the colour, add a handful of salt to the first rinse. Golden rule- Wash less, Wash delicately.
- Use no detergents if possible, and only in miniscule amounts if not. Prefer Gentle, pH-neutral detergents. Example: Baby Shampoos. Avoid bleaches and colour guards. Avoid putting detergents directly on fabric.
- Hang Dry INSIDE OUT in Shade (Never in Direct Sunlight). Rinse off soap/detergent before drying.
- Iron INSIDE OUT, slowly in a low to medium setting. Do not dampen the fabric while ironing.
- Rubs colour when dry and Bleeds Colour for initial washes. Avoid pairing darker colours with lighter colours while washing and wearing. Wash Indigo separately. Use Milder Deodorants and Perfumes, Natural is always better!
